Guardianships and Alternatives for Adults - a St. Louis ARC Family Workshop

St. Louis ARC Family Workshop Series. At age 18 your child becomes a legal adult and has the legal ability to sign a contract, make decisions about their education, and decide who can be present in their IEP meeting. This workshop will help prepare you to assess your family member’s decision-making skills, their circle of influence, and answer questions about pursuing legal representation on their behalf.

This workshop for social workers will explore the available legal options of Guardianship and Power of Attorney. To be discussed: ethical issues that may arise in treating a client who is no longer competent or may be a danger to himself or others including the ethical tension inherent when a client can no longer make their own decisions. This workshop meets the state requirement for 3 continuing education hours of ethics per licensure period.
