Thomas DeWoskin
Tom DeWoskin leads the firm’s bankruptcy and creditor’s rights practice group and has practiced in the field of commercial law for nearly 30 years. He is one of only 12 who serve on the panel of bankruptcy trustees for the Eastern District of Missouri—a position he’s held since its inception.
Tom represents both secured and unsecured creditors, creditors’ committees, and even other trustees both in formal bankruptcy proceedings as well as informal out-of-court workouts. When representing creditors, his goal is to maximize their recovery by using the law and the specific facts of the case to their greatest advantage.
In representing debtors, he recognizes that businesses and individuals sometimes are forced to seek financial relief due to events beyond their control. Tom can assist them in obtaining the ‘fresh start’ (or closure) provided by federal law.
Though usually bankruptcy related, his representation is not always of the debtor or creditor. For instance, Tom represents asset purchasers either from Chapter 7 debtors or from failing companies outside of the formal bankruptcy process.
Throughout Tom’s representation, whatever the nature, his goal is to protect clients’ interests by developing thoughtful, cost-effective solutions to their needs.
Well regarded in his field, Tom has written articles on various bankruptcy and commercial law topics for both general and professional publications. He speaks before a variety of professional groups and local, state, and national legal associations.
