James
A. Borchers
Jim Borchers’ practice is primarily in the areas of general business and commercial transactions, including the complex area of franchising, and in estate planning for individuals and business owners. He is also well-versed in trade association concerns and municipal law including zoning issues.
Business Law. Whether starting a business, growing an existing business, mode, or beginning to think about succession, Jim aids in creating or advancing the business or transaction structure, capturing value in new opportunities, and solving problems while managing risk.
Estate Planning. Planning for the future is a process unique to every person and family. Many families trust Jim to help them undergo proper planning to protect their assets and provide piece of mind.
Franchise Law. One of the few franchise attorneys in the St. Louis area, Jim is uniquely qualified to assist business franchisors and franchisees. He stays abreast of this complex area of business law in order to represent both franchisors and franchisees in new business ventures, operational issues, and to provide counsel for franchise registrations and sales.
Municipal Law. Serving as formation attorney for the city of Weldon Spring until 1992, Jim designed and drafted all initial ordinances and codes. He successfully handled a series of annexation cases before the Missouri Court of Appeals and managed zoning litigation in the midst of the city’s rapid growth.
Trade Associations. Jim serves as executive director and general counsel for several national trade associations guiding them through all their business-related issues.
Since 1997, Jim has taught adult education classes in estate planning, new business creation, and business growth strategies at St. Charles Community College and in the St. Charles School District Adult Education Program.
Jim entered the practice of law in 1982 and, prior to joining Danna McKitrick, was a partner with two St. Charles based law firms.
